The Concorde Of The Future: Paris To Japan In Just 2.5 Hours, Emissions Free
Flying Paris to Tokyo in less time than it takes to watch two movies, with barely a wisp of exhaust? That’s the plan for the Zhest rocketplane being developed in Europe. Biofuel-powered passenger aircraft are becoming more and more common. But what if you mashed that up with a rocket engine? That’s essentially what the Zero Emission Hypersonic Transport (Zehst) project by European defense …

Episode 25 – Lithuanian Actress Discovered at Cafe du Paris – Interview with Ieva
jamesjosephbrown.com While paying the bill after leaving the Cafe du Paris with my friend and former classmate Gian Paolo, visiting from Rome (see Episode 24), I strike up a conversation with Ieva, a charming young student of French at Vilnius University. She and I share stories of our Lithuanian and American families, separated by half a century of brutal, senseless Soviet occupation. Part of my work here is my own attempt to find ways to heal. What I want is for people to not dwell on this dark past, but instead to acknowledge it, to learn from it, and to find ways to move forward together in a positive, constructive manner. Ieva shares a very heartbreaking story of a family divided by the complete political and social isolation of Lithuania from the world in the last half of the twentieth century, a story which was echoed in my own family, and in many, many others. But Ieva is somehow still optimistic. Something more even, she is vivacious and vibrant. She greets every other passerby on the sidewalk outside the cafe and kisses cheeks with her friends who come in to order coffee. She exudes a joie de vivre that is infectious. I could spend all afternoon talking with her, but a Hare Krishna parade cuts our interview short.

“Paris: The City of Lights” Jiyen1213′s photos around Paris, France
A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Paris, France by TravelPod blogger Jiyen1213 titled “Paris: The City of Lights” Jiyen1213′s travel blog entry: “Bonjour! Today I write to you about my adventures in Paris, the city by the Seine. Going into this trip, I must say I was somewhat apprehensive about visiting France. From the rumours of anti-immigrant bias and xenophobia, to potential after effects of the riots, and what I thought would be a generally dilapidated country, I must say that I was concerned before my arrival. However, as the old saying goes, that travel is the best way to fight prejudice, I must report that I was extremely happy with France and enjoyed myself greatly. I was able to employ some of my high-school level French to talk with the locals, but I was somewhat surprised by the ability of the French to speak good English and communicate effectively, in sharp contrast with the Romans. Even most of the important signs in the airport are printed in English clearly to minimize confusion. I did the whole tourist maze, visiting Sacre Coeur, the Cathedral of Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower, and the Musee du Louvre. I also trekked out to Versailles for a half day trip. Paris has a definite “je ne sais quoi” about it that makes one feel at ease. Virtually all the people I encountered were at least moderately friendly and for the most part, things were pretty efficient. Even the notorious Paris Metro didn’t feel too intimidating, although I must admit …
