What are some good travel tips for Greece?
I’m planning a trip to Greece for the first time and the information on the internet is a bit overwhelming and jumbled. I obviously can’t see everything, so if anyone has experience from visiting or knows of some GOOD websites that have some tips on what to see that would be awesome! I want to see as much as I can and I’m planning on going for about 2 weeks.
This site seems to have some pretty good information. See especially some of the “travel extras”, such as the city guides.
I went for 2 weeks in July.
Obviously you have to see the Acropolis in Athens, there is a little place nearby called Plaka where it’s cute little shops and cafes. It’s right off the metro.
That was kind of all we did in Athens besides going to the clubs at night. Then we spent a few days down in Tripoli, it’s about 2 and a half hours from Athens in the south of Greece and it’s gorgeous. Green mountains and valleys and so many historic things. There’s an old medieval fort built on top of 1,000 steps, you can climb or drive up and it’s really cool to see. It’s so high, you can see the entire port and city of Tripoli.
Then we took ferries to Aegina, Santorini, and Mykonos for a few days each. I really recommend seeing the islands, they are all unique and gorgeous. Santorini has the village of Oia voted #2 best sunset in the world. Mykonos has the traditional blue & white buildings. The ferry rides are kind of long but so worth it!
Sorry I don’t know any websites to give you…I went with a Greek friend! Oh yea, eat as much souvlaki, saganaki, grilled octopus, sepoura fish, and tiropitas as you can- Best food I’ve ever eaten!
Before travelling Greece first see some travelling destination sites and they will guide you properly.
i would 100% suggest a greek english dictionary so you can understand people and so you can at least try 2 speak their language. Don’t worry if you don’t pronounce the words right we can usually figure out what people say. while your there you need to get to see the islands they are sensational and at night people have their houses covered with beautiful white lights. Now if your on the main land then you gotta hit the beaches for wild party’s! just make sure you know your drinks because if you tell the bartender just give me whatever then he will give you tsipouro. Tsipouro is a very very strong greek alcoholic drink and can be very harmful to a persons body if they are not used to it. Don’t freak out if you see a kid about the age of 8 in a club or a bar, they allow kids in greece.
-hope you have fun!
